Dodge Spirit
The Dodge Spirit is a midsize car that was sold by Dodge from the 1989 to 1995 model years. Slotted between the Dodge Shadow and Dodge Dynasty in size, the Spirit served as the successor of the Dodge Aries K-car; as Chrysler streamlined its mid-size lines, the Spirit also replaced the Dodge Lancer and Dodge 600. Produced solely as a notchback four-door sedan, the model line was sold alongside the Plymouth Acclaim and Chrysler LeBaron; the model line was exported to Europe as the Chrysler Saratoga. The Dodge Spirit and its counterparts used the Chrysler AA platform, an evolution of the Chrysler K platform. Benchmarked against the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry during its design, the Spirit grew in size over its Aries predecessor to allow for increased passenger space. In another change, both turbocharged I4 and V6 engines became optional. Chrysler assembled the Spirit alongside the Acclaim and LeBaron at its Newark Assembly (Newark, Delaware) and Toluca Car Assembly (Toluca, Mexico) facilities; the last vehicle was produced on December 9, 1994, as Dodge replaced the model line with the Dodge Stratus (selling both for the 1995 model year).
